Pomegranate's home (and gardens)
Take a little tour of our grounds and shop. The 1905 homestead consists of three buildings: the main family house, the cottage (which was a bunkhouse for ranch hands), and the ice house, where they stored ice from nearby ice caves for all of Bend. Each building has its own flavor and rooms, and we've filled each with fun stuff to peruse!
We're on half an acre with a wild garden (quite a project in itself) and front lawn surrounded by wild roses, lilacs, crabapple trees, viburnum (snowball bushes), bitterbrush, lavender, mountain honeysuckle, russian olives, and the ubiquitous pines and junipers.
In winter, it's somewhat stark and branchy, but in spring and summer, everything comes alive in glorious color.
And we have zillions of bird friends that stop by for snacks, plus squirrels, deer, and duck families.
Just about the only thing we don't grow here are pomegranates. We leave that up to Jan's mom, who lives on a lush ranch in Central California with almonds, peaches, persimmons, and pomegranates...
